7/2/24 - BP Appoints Mark Steele to Police Chief

Mark Steele has been selected as the new Chief of Police for the Biscayne Park Police Department.  Before ascending to his current role, Steele served as Deputy Chief, having started with BPPD in 2022.

His extensive background includes managing disaster response as a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper during Hurricane Irma, coordinating efforts from multiple states and agencies.

Additionally, he gained valuable experience in undercover investigations and collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies while working for the Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco. His expertise also extends to managing evidence at ABT's evidence warehouse.

Apart from his law enforcement career, Steele is an Adjunct Professor at Everglades University, a member of the State Attorney's Office Human Trafficking Taskforce, and a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. With numerous commendations and awards for his performance, Steele's skills, knowledge, and experience make him a worthy leader.

He holds multiple degrees, including a Doctor of Management, Master of Public Administration, Juris Master, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Public Administration.

Chief Steele was chosen from a pool of over 40 from Florida, Texas, and New York.  The panel making the final decision included the Village Manager, several department heads, and the Acting Chief of Police for North Miami Beach.   The decision to offer the position to Chief Steele was unanimous.

We are excited for Chief Steele to lead BPPD through the next chapter!  Exciting changes are already underway that will improve transparency and rebuild trust.
